From NetGalley I got:
- Hysteria by Megan Miranda thanks to Bloomsbury UK/ANZ
- The Holders by Julianna Scott thanks to Strange Chemistry
Because it was (temporarily, I think) free on iTunes, I downloaded Stray by Andrea K Höst, whose And All The Stars I loved last year. Stray is book one of her Touchstone trilogy, which is SF-y.
And then I spent my achievement unlocked books on a few pre-orders (which I'll mention when they actually arrive) and two SF novellas by Aussies (if you're curious, in my book buying system, two novellas = one novel/collection/anthology). Both will be counting towards by Aussie SF reading challenge and I'm rather looking forward to reading them.
- Rayessa and the Space Pirates by Donna Maree Hanson
- Flight 404 by Simon Petrie
Great haul! I went and found Stray for Kindle (free, yay!) and I need to buy Rayessa, too!
ReplyDeleteAwesome. After And All The Stars I have high hopes for Stray.
DeleteAnd you have a copy of Wolfborn on its way. :-) that's fantasy, but you can probably slip it into your Aussie SF Challenge.
ReplyDeleteThat's cheating. If I started counting fantasy, there wouldn't be much challenge ;-) But it DOES definitely count towards the Aussie Women Writers Challenge.
DeleteI didn't realise Simon Petrie was a scientist. Another aspect to look forward to! (It's an ebook, though, so I don't have the other novella... yet. It was tempting, but I'm trying not to overburden my TBR.)
I proofread Flight 404. You should find that one interesting, and the other side features a humorous mystery set in a space elevator hotel. Very silly, but the author is a scientist and doesn't usually get his science wrong, so you can just relax and enjoy the stories.
ReplyDeleteThe Hunt For Red Leicester is a lot shorter than Flight 404, not much bigger than a short story, really. And you may need the humour after Flight 404. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear someone is reading my novel for the Aussie Women's Challenge. Last year people read about 1300 books and none of them was mine!
ReplyDeleteYours isn't the only one. There were some surprising gaps (no Sara Douglass for example). I think a lot of people focussed on newish releases, which is unfortunate since there are heaps of slightly older books which are awesome and which I'm sure not everyone's read.
